Edgar Wilbert Monroe, 80, longtime resident of Southwest Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.

Funeral services for Edgar Wilbert Monroe were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Trinity Holiness Church in Blair with Pastor Billy Hudson officiating.

Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Edgar was born October 2, 1928, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, to Stanley and Lundy Lucille (Brooks) Monroe. He grew up in the Lone Wolf and Granite area moving to Hedley, Texas, in 1985. Edgar was saved and baptized in 1983 in Mangum, Oklahoma.

On June 29, 1963, Edgar and Sandra Gardenhire were married in Rossville, Georgia. They had just celebrated their 46th anniversary. Edgar had proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict by serving in the United States Army. After moving to Hedley, Edgar and Sandra started Monroe’s Peach Ranch. They were well known for their excellent peaches and established their first Fruit Stand on highway 287 east of Amarillo.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin Monroe and Clyde Monroe; one sister, Lorene Monroe; and by one granddaughter, Lila Kate Monroe.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home in Hedley; five children, Regina Monroe of Memphis, Texas, Troy Monroe and wife Katherine of Hedley, Texas, Tony Monroe and wife Angie of Memphis, Texas, Jeremy Monroe and wife Angela of Clarendon, Texas, and Matthew Monroe and wife Shelby of Mangum, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill Monroe of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mary Edwards of Blair, Oklahoma, Pauline George, also of Blair, and Nell McGregor and husband Jerry of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Paul Monroe and wife Carrie, Devonia Monroe, Colton Springer, Rochelle Springer, Josh Monroe, William Monroe, Addison Monroe, Eric Monroe, Sara Monroe, Erin Monroe, Caylor Monroe, Collin Monroe, Kylie Monroe, and Jacob Fineberg.

Opal Dickson Thomas, 92, died Friday, July 3, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in Hedley United Methodist Church in Hedley with Rev. Ervin Emmert, Pastor, and Bill Carson, officiating. Burial was held at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mrs. Thomas was born April 18, 1917, in Hedley, to John Green and Mollie Dukes Dickson. She attended Hedley school and was employed at Polk Street Methodist Church and later by Amarillo Independent School District from which she retired in 1982. She married Joe Thomas on January 22, 1938, in Memphis. They were married for forty years.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Jewel Quisenberry, Fay Dickson, Mae Wilson Thornberry, and Golden Johnson; one nephew, Richard Dickson; and her beloved husband Joe Thomas.

Survivors include one brother, J.M. Dickson of Turkey; three nieces, Peggy Struble of Toccoa, GA, Dixie Gartrell of Houston, and Linda Phelan of Austin; three nephews, Jack Quisenberry of Tyler, John Dickson of Hedley, and Tony Mikesell of St. Louis, Missouri; and special friends, Helen McMillen and Linda Boyett of Amarillo and Marie Cruse of Turkey, Texas; she also has many great nieces, nephews, numerous relatives, and friends.

The family requests memorials be to Rowe Cemetery Association.

Juanita “Nita” Graham, 89, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Clarendon.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, in First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Terry Lowe, Pastor, and Patrick Robertson, officiating. Burial was held at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Nita Graham was born November 6, 1919, in Estelline, Hall County to John M. and Minnie Smith Maybery weighing only 1 ½ lbs. On June 2, 1941, she married the love of her life, Mutt Graham, in Wheeler and were married for 66 years. Together they opened Mutt’s Café and were in the café business for more than 40 years. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother and will be truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mutt on August 14, 2007; and her parents.
She leaves behind a son, Ted Graham and wife Helen of Clarendon; a daughter, Carol King of Spring, ; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Raymond King, 92, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services were held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Bill Hodges, Pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Clarendon, officiating. Burial with US Army Honors will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Raymond was born May 27, 1917 in Seminole, Okla., to Burchel and Melissa Griffin King. He was a US Army Veteran serving in World War II in England and drove an ammunition truck. He married Margaret Yvonne Putman on August 19, 1950, in Clovis, New Mexico. He was a deputy sheriff in Hedley for three years. He also worked for Armstrong County and retired from the Texas Highway Department in Clarendon. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Clarendon. He was known as Pa to all that knew him. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry King; and a grandson, Mark King.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Yvonne King of Panhandle; two daughters, Debbie Glasgow and husband Danny of Hedley, and Betty Pederson and husband Trent of Logan, New Mexico; two brothers, James King of Amarillo, and A.K. King of Fritch; three sisters, Jo Tolbert of Amarillo, Pauline Black of Ft. Stockton, Jerrie Tims of Farwell; 12 grandchildren, Brandie Hefner and husband Kyle of White Deer, Hope Stephens and husband Brannon of Panhandle, Jimmy King of White Deer, Shannon Moore and husband Seth of Claude, Jeremy Strack of Dumas, Lanita Blackwell and husband Kelly of Amarillo, Stephanie Strack of McLean, Casey Glasgow and wife Christa of Amarillo, Cody Glasgow and wife Carissa of Arlington, Josh Pederson of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Blake Strack and Alyssa Strack of Logan, New Mexico; 22 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Glen Homer “Bud” Day, 87, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Amarillo.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with Dan Hall, officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Bud was born May 30, 1922, in Mexia, to Alvin Anson and Penelope Gertrude Ruthven Day. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army. He had been a resident of Pampa before moving to Howardwick in 1973. He started Clarendon Auto Supply and owned and operated the business for many years before the business sold to Kidd’s Texaco & Bivens Oil. After he sold the business he continued to be employed there until shortly before his death. He was loved and respected by everyone he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and the love of his life, Joella Day.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Day of Howardwick and Cindy Gunn of Allen; a sister, Blanch Anderson of Santa Anna, Cali.; a grandson, Derek Gunn; two nephews, Jim and Terry Anderson; and a niece, Karen Hodge.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a VFW Post of Choice or Favorite Church or Charity of Choice.

Rebecca McMahan Mendoza died on April 10, 2009, in Chandler, Arizona.

A private memorial service will be held on June 30, 2009, at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.

Rebecca was born in Amarillo, on February 15, 1956, the youngest child of John F. McMahan and Elise Price McMahan. She was a skilled artisan who created original pieces in stained glass. She was also very active in breeding and showing her beloved boxers.

She is survived by her husband Frank, a daughter Michelle; a son Josh; two grandchildren; her sister Nanda Traweek; and her brothers, Don McMahan and Danny McMahan.

Cloyd Monroe Burton, 89, died Friday, June 19, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in the First Baptist Church in Claude with Rev. Darrell Burton, grandson and pastor of Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon officiating. Burial followed at Claude Cemetery in Claude Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mr. Burton was born February 29, 1920, northeast of Bard, N.M. to Ezra Blain and Dollie Oleva Starkey Burton. He attended school at Porter, N.M. and San Jon, N.M. He married Winnie Evelyn Mote on April 19, 1941, in Clovis, N.M. They lived in eastern New Mexico for a time, then moved to the Washburn community in Armstrong County in September 1943. They ranched and farmed until 1970, at which time Mr. Burton went to work for Crudgington Oil delivering fuel and oil until 1982. Mr. Burton was a member of the First

Baptist Church in Claude, where he served as a deacon. He was a longtime member of the Fairview Community Neighbors and served as a school board member of the Claude Independent School District.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie on February 17, 2006; and his parents.

Survivors include his children, Judy Bynum and husband W.A. of Big Spring, Kenneth Burton and wife Patsy of Whiteface, and Linda Smith and husband Jerry of Stockton, Calif.; two sisters, Elsie Wiseman and Mildred Mote, and one brother, Norman Burton; five grandchildren, Darrell Burton, Wanda Cox, Cecil Bynum, Cindy Sturdivant and Lorrie McCampbell; 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

The pallbearers were his grandsons, while his nephews served as honorary pallbearers.

Sandra Eads, 48, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis with Rev. Lance Wood of First Baptist Church of Clarendon officiating. Burial will be held in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas.

Ms. Eads was born November 13, 1959, to Doyle and Louise Watson in Memphis.  She attended Memphis High School and has lived in Amarillo for the past 15 years. 

Sandra was preceded in death by her four grandparents, Jack and Frances Watson, Ruby Morgan, Albert Rogers; and a sister Cynthia Pritchard Goswick.

Survivors include her two daughters: Lacey Eads of Canyon and Lindsey Eads of Houston; her mother: Louise Bray of Amarillo; her father: Doyle Watson and wife Katherine of Memphis; her sister: Debbie Stone and husband Tex of Memphis; her two brothers: Larry Watson and wife Laura of Perryton and Michael Watson and wife Amanda of Amarillo; and many loving nieces and nephews.

B.D. Rhea, 86, died Monday, June 8, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services were Thursday, June 11, 2009 in Robertson Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with Dick Marcear, Minister of The Church Of Christ at the Colonies, officiating.  Interment was in Citizens Cemetery with arrangements by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Rhea was born January 28, 1923, in Briscoe County to John D. and Pricie Bullock Rhea, the second of five children. He grew up on the JA Ranch until entering the US Army Air Corps during WW II, where he served as a mechanic. After the war, he worked as an auto mechanic in and around Amarillo and later as a mechanic in the oilfield while living in Canadian.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Burrel Rhea; and a sister, Joan Gerner.

Survivors include a sister, Ramona Batchelor of Amarillo; a brother, Max Rhea of Albuquerque, NM,; three nieces, four nephews; several great and great great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Carolyn DeLois “Tooter” Kindle Latham, 66, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in Clarendon.

Memorial services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with Chuck Robertson, officiating. Cremation and arrangements were handled by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mrs. Latham was born October 27, 1942, in Hollis, Okla., to Eunice & C.L. “Jack” Kindle. She married Russell Latham on December 22, 1960, in Childress. She had been a resident of Logan, New Mexico, before moving to Clarendon three years ago. She was a very strong hard worker and was always there for her family. She fought her illness and never complained about her illness. She was a great wife, mom, and grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Kindle

Survivors include her husband, Russell Latham of Clarendon; two daughters, Lace Love and husband Delbert and Tina Edwards and husband Kenneth all of Childress; four brothers, Berchel Kindle, Bo Kindle, and Robert Kindle all of Childress, and Richard Kindle of Amarillo; a sister, Jackie Kindle of Grenville, TX; four grandchildren, Kate Timmons of Childress, Sage Love of Childress, Kaleb Edwards of Collinsville,Texas and Vanesa Love of Childress; and two great grandchildren, Kason and Kailee Timmons both of Childress.

The family will be at 1015 West Wood in Clarendon. The family requests memorials be to the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center or the ASPCA.
