Martha Spalding Lowe, 71, died Sunday, August 17, 2008, in Amarillo.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2008, in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Bright Newhouse, Minister of the Hedley Church of Christ, and Rev. Terry Lowe, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Services are under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Martha was born October 18, 1936, in Hedley to Alfred Beach and Eloise Leach Spalding. She married Douglas Richard Lowe on June 22, 1955, in Hedley. She had been a homemaker for most her life, but had volunteered with many organizations including the Ellis-Fischel State Cancer Research Hospital. She had been the secretary-treasurer for the Big Spring First United Methodist Church. Martha had also served as the District President of WMU, now known as the United Methodist Women. She had many hobbies including knitting, making candles, and painting. She especially loved playing bridge and had a love for people that will never be forgotten. She had been a resident of Clarendon for most her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Lowe of Clarendon; two sons, Charles Wayne Lowe of Mesquite, David Richard Lowe and wife Margaret of Decatur; two sisters, Kathleen Pixley of Grove, Okla., Sara Carter of Clayton, NM; three grandchildren, Brandon Lowe, Justin Lowe, Cody Lowe; and one great grandchild, Chasady Lowe.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, rather all memorials be to the Hedley Senior Citizens.
