Dorothy Lou Vaught, 76, died Friday, November 24, 2006 in Odessa.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa with Don Johnston officiating. Services were under the direction of Martinez Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vaught was born January 31, 1930, to Walter H. and Ethel Johnston in Clarendon. She married A.B. Vaught on June 1, 1962, and lived most of her life in Odessa. She had one daughter, Carol Bradley Raulston and one grandson, Ronnie Barnhill. Her humble beginnings at the cotton farm, through the “Dust Bowl”, and the Depression led her to an appreciation for life. She could dance a “young one” to sleep, was an accomplished bowler, and a truly great family member and friend to all who knew her. Dorothy loved to travel, was an avid reader, and was great at Jeopardy. She enjoyed dancing and listening to bluegrass, Cowboys and Permian Panther football, and a good joke. Dorothy loved to give and gave lovingly, especially to the children. While she will be missed, we have all been touched by having her as a part of our lives.
She was preceded in death by parents, Walter Johnston, Troy Wallace, and Ethel Dawson; sister, Patricia Wallace; and grandson Ronnie Barnhill.
Survivors include her husband, A.B. Vaught; daughter, Carol Raulston and husband Ron; brother, Don Johnston and wife Jan, Billy Johnston, Radell Johnston, Gary Johnston, Ernest Johnston, and Dan Foster; sisters Linda Haykus, Judy Lekovich, Pam Alason and Cleta Johnston; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and a multitude of friends.
Mrs. Vaught requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Ronnie Barnhill Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hill Country County Foundation, P.O. Box 848, Burnet, Texas 78611.
