Funeral services for Alma Ruth Hartzog Perkins, age 93, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2005, in Robertson Chapel of Memories with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of Community Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.
Mrs. Perkins died Monday, June 13, 2005, in Dallas. She was born January 22, 1912, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, to Abner Carl and Harriett Moorman Hartzog. She lived a wonderful life surrounded by loving family and friends.
She married Thomas John Perkins on August 29, 1937, at Clarendon. She was a resident of Clarendon until 1998 when she moved to Cedar Hill, a Dallas suburb.
Ruth, along with her husband and sister-in-law Grace Parker, owned Parker-Perkins Variety Store in Clarendon for many years. She was very active in the First Baptist Church and several Clarendon community activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 16, 1994; a sister, Juanita Wood; and a brother, Harry Hartzog.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Overstreet of Cedar Hill; a son, Pat Perkins of Scottsdale, Arizona; four grandchildren, Robert Edgar, Champ Hagen, and Hannah Ruth Overstreet all of Cedar Hill and Zanna Perkins of Chico, California; one sister, Alice Johnson of Clarendon; and two brothers, Carl Hartzog of Fort Worth and L.B. Hartzog of Silver City, New Mexico.
Casket bearers were Ferol Shelton, Jerry Green, Scott Martin, and Jim Shadle.
The family suggests memorials to Citizens Cemetery Association in Clarendon.
