The Lady Broncos played in the Canadian Basketball Tournament over the holidays and came home with one win in their three games.
The ladies took on White Deer in the opening round and were defeated, 30-49. The Lady Broncos jumped out to the early advantage, but the Does came back to post a one-point lead at the break. A cold-shooting third quarter was devastating for the Lady Broncos, and they struggled to find a rhythm. Taylor DeGrate and Carlee Johnson finished in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively, but it was not enough to overtake their opponent. Taylor Gaines and Allyson Grahn added three each, and Briley Chadwick helped with two.
In the next round, the Lady Broncos regrouped and bested a good McLean team, 59-40. They were able to dominate their opponent throughout the game and finished with a big win. DeGrate posted 26 points as she was unstoppable and Grahn added 12. Johnson and Chadwick added eight each, Hannah Hommel put in three, and MaRae Hall had two.
The ladies shot eight of eleven as a team from the bonus line.
The ladies met up against the host team in the third round and struggled to get anything going offensively. They were defeated 13-71.
Scoring: Gaines 4, Skyler White 3, Johnson 2, Hannah Howard 2, Grahn 1, and Jensen Hatley 1.
Clarendon took on Fritch Friday night and came home with an easy win at 55-38. The Lady Broncos were able to get back on track and execute their offensive attack against the Lady Eagles. DeGrate exploded once again and put in 25 points to lead the team on the scoreboard and Johnson added 14. Grahn put in seven points, and White had four. Chadwick helped with three, and Howard put two points on the board.
The Lady Broncos will open district play when they take on Quanah at home January 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The JV will play at 5:00 p.m.
