Last Friday night, September 28, 2012 Hedley traveled to Happy to engage the Happy Cowboys in a football game. Somewhere along the way – they lost their way, and the Happy Cowboys were happy indeed, winning 64-8.
Sometimes in life, particularly when young people are concerned, stuff happens, and it is extraordinarily difficult to fully understand what happened.
When great disappointment causes our young people to feel less than optimum about themselves, we need to do all we can to ameliorate their dejection.
The Hedley Owls are a good football team and I hope they remember that. They work well together and pull for each other. They are fun and exciting to watch as they compete on the gridiron.
Last Friday they lost their focus and lost a football game. They did not diminish themselves. I’m sure they will work with their coaches and learn from this experience. After all, that is the point of sports – to help us grow. Their behavior on the field, in the face of excruciating disappointment, was sterling. Sometimes that is enough. It is a virtue to be appreciated and respected.
Plainview Christian comes to town this Friday, October 5. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Let’s all be there to support them and show them our appreciation.
