This Week

Funeral services for Shirley Marie Booth, age 59, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, in the Clarendon Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bill Hodges, Pastor, officiating.  Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.

Mrs. Booth died Saturday, October 19, 2002, in Erick, Oklahoma.  She was born December 2, 1942, in Clarendon and had been a lifelong Clarendon resident.  She married Kenneth Dale Booth on February 6, 1959, at Clarendon.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Clarendon Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Dale Booth, on May 14, 1994, and her other siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Booth of Clarendon; one daughter, Sheryl Carter of Erick, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Gary Carter, Tony Carter, and Kyle Carter all of Erick, Oklahoma, and Kenny Booth and Josh Allred, both of Clarendon; and two great grandchildren, Caleb Carter of Scott City, Kansas, and Dylan Booth of Clarendon.

Casket bearers were Don Booth, Jimmy Booth, Alan Booth, Bobby Booth, Johnny Millican, and Michael Morris.  Honorary bearers were grandsons of Mrs. Booth.

Graveside services for Gertrude Lee Hulsey Smith Carter, age 86, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2002, in Citizens Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon, officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., in Clarendon.

Mrs. Carter died Tuesday, October 15, 2002, in Clarendon.  She was born in Yeager, Oklahoma, to Mack and Jettie Hulsey.  She married Ed Smith in 1941 at Anadarko, Oklahoma, and they moved to Clarendon shortly after their marriage. They worked for the Ross Darby Diary and for Boke Bugbee.  They also lived in the Groom area where she worked for the Golden Spread Grill.  Mr. Smith died in 1974 and she moved to Nevado for a time. She then lived in Lefors and Clarendon again before moving to Jacksboro where she met and married Glen Carter.  He died in 1986.

Proceeded in death by her parents; one sister, Nora Jewel Hulsey Ledbetter; and three brothers, Lester Edward Hulsey, Roy Virgil Hulsey, and Carl C. Hulsey.

Survivors include one niece, Linda Louise Anderson of Oakly, Idaho; a nephew, Edward Wayne Ledbetter of Clarendon; a brother-in-law, Ed Richard Ledbetter of Clarendon; a sister-in-law, Vereda Hulsey of White Deer; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Louise Riley, age 88, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2002, in Robertson Chapel of Memories with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon, officiating.  Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., in Clarendon.

Mrs. Riley died Wednesday, October 16, 2002, in Clarendon.  She was born in Blue, Oklahoma, on August 15, 1914, to Jenny and Tas Stone.  The family moved from Blue, Oklahoma, to the Paducah area, then to Silverton before settling in Clarendon.  She married Pete Riley on January 4, 1936.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and a brother, George Stone, in 2001.  She worked in several dry good stores in Clarendon over the years until purchasing a gas station/antique shop with her husband in 1975 after retiring from farming. After her husband’s death, she operated the shop until earlier this year.  She was a loving and caring mother, family member, and friend.  She will be remembered for having a strong work ethic, for a wonderful sense of humor, for her dedication to family, as a person of integrity, and for her love of plants and flowers.  She was loved very much by her family, and her presence will be missed beyond words.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Riley and wife Debbie of Amarillo; two brothers, Jay Stone and wife Ola of Clarendon, and Kenneth Stone and wife Liz of Howardwick; one sister, Sue Hardage and husband Truett of Altus, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Crystal Riley of Dallas and Brent Riley of Amarillo; two nieces, Susie Hardage and Becky Bills; two nephews, Rod Stone and Charlie Hardage; and one great niece, Heather Churchwill.

Casket bearers were Rance Gregory, Billy Ray Johnston, Dean Percival, Russell Keown, Turner Caldwell, and Barry Tyler.

The family requests that memorials be to the American Cancer Society or BSA Hospice.

Funeral services for Mary Louise Koetting-Williams, age 79, of White Deer were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in White Deer with Rev. Toni Bailey, pastor, officiating.  Burial was held at White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mrs. Williams died October 20, 2002, in White Deer.  She was born March 11, 1923, in Groom to Frank and Anna Koetting.  She married Horace Allen Williams on August 1, 1942, in Abilene.  He preceded her in death in 1992.  She worked in the business office at Pantex during World War II.  She later was a teller at the First Bank and Trust in White Deer.  She then worked in the business office at Richardson’s Motor Company in White Deer.  She was the business manager for Highland General Hospital in Pampa for many years.  Before retiring, she became the parts manage for Williams Brothers Supply in White Deer.  She was a member of the White Deer United Methodist Church, the Venado Blanca Study Club, and the Daughters of the Pioneers.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Bernice Koetting in 1930; two brothers, Paul James Koetting in 1930 and William Koetting; and her parents, Frank and Anna Koetting in 1963.

Survivors include a son, Frank Allen Williams and wife Colleen of Amarillo; a daughter, Lynette Zurline and husband Steve of Gustine; a son, Dr. Donald Layne Williams and wife Katherine of Clarendon; a sister, Francis Rose Currigan and husband Tom of Fort Meyers, Florida; a brother, Edward Henry Koetting and wife Yvonne of Borger; a sister Mildred Ann Dowdy and husband Sam of St. Louis, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Graveside services for Connie Lee Henry, age 91, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2002, in Union Hill Cemetery in Lakeview with Rev. Darrell Burton, Pastor of the Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon, and Blake McWhirter, great nephew of Mrs. Henry, officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.

Mrs. Henry died Friday, October 11, 2002, in Memphis.  She was born June 2, 1911, in Cook County, Texas, and had been a Hall County resident most of her life.  She married Alan Thomas Henry in 1930 at Lakeview.  He preceded her in death in 1978.  She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis.

Survivors include one sister, Linnie Martin of Memphis; one brother, Woodrow Floyd of Memphis; two sisters-in-law, Ollie Wilson of Amarillo and Nina Floyd of Amarillo; seven nieces and nephews, Shirley Palmer of Tucumcari, New Mexico; Ronny Martin of Golden, Colorado; Connie McWhirter of Plains, Texas; Carolyn Davis of Memphis; Dwight Floyd of Memphis, Dwaine Floyd of Memphis; and Betty Butcher of Canadian; and numerous other family members.

The family requests that memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice in Amarillo or to the Memphis Convalescent Center Activity Fund in Memphis.

 Graveside services for Larry Richard Hight, age 57, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2002, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Bryan Knowles, Pastor of the Community Fellowship Church in Clarendon officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.

Mr. Hight died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, in Amarillo.  He was born April 11, 1945, in Fredrick, Oklahoma, and had been a resident of Clarendon much of his life.  He taught in the public school system in several area towns for most of his life before retiring.  He married Vivian Gayle Molder on August 3, 1995, at Clarendon.  She preceded him in death on December 26, 1999.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Hight of Dallas; two step-daughters, Becky Swearingen and Carrie Mays, both of Clarendon; one step son, David Moss of Clarendon; one sister, Charlena Ford of Clarendon; three grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be to Citizens Cemetery Association in Clarendon or to a favorite charity.
