Funeral services for Cecil Claude “Jack” Nivens, age 84, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2001, in the First Baptist Church in Hedley with Rev. Bruce Howard, Pastor, and Rev. Bryan Knowles, Baptist Minister from Clarendon, officiating. Burial was in Rowe Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Mr. Nivens died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, in Hedley. He was born February 26, 1916, in Parnell, Texas, and was a resident of Albuquerque, NM, most of his adult life before moving to Hedley in 1979. He married Billie Sue Warren on May 22, 1981, at Hedley. He was employed by ICX Trucking for 47 years before retiring in 1979. He was also a farmer. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church in Hedley.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Nivens of Hedley; three daughters, Joanne Berthol and husband Bert of Albuquerque, NM, Ramona Tolle of Lake Dallas, and Karen Dumond and husband David of Mesquite; one son, Jimmy Powers and wife Tammie of Lubbock; one sister, Eva Kennedy of Memphis; one brother, R.L Nivens of Grandbury; five grandchildren: Kelley Jean McAulay, Debbie Moses and husband Billy, Mike Tolle, Kylie Powers, and Kendall Powers; and three great grandchildren: Jake Thompson, Savana Moses, and McKenna Moses.
Casket bearers were Bobby Ward, Randy Davis, Pecos Hagler, Mike Tolle, Jim Taylor, and Rodney Hargrove. Honorary bearers were Jim Lollar, Buford Holland, J.T. Lamberson, W.C. Quisenberry, Bill Carson, and Sonny Kellogg.
