Clarendon is hosting a fun-filled day of trick-or-treating, games, food, movies, and more this Saturday, October 29.

The Chamber is organizing a Carnival, Cake Walk, Spooky Sensory Room, and free activities from 3 to 6 p.m. in the EDC’s building at 118 S. Kearney.

The First United Methodist Church will host its annual trunk-or-treat in front of the church from 5 to 7 p.m.

Kids can also get treats downtown starting at 6:00 p.m. when the Mulkey Theatre will be hosting a Trunk or Treat along with a Costume Contest and concessions out in front of the Mulkey at 7:00. There will be prizes for best costumes and best decorated vehicle.

Halloween Bingo will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 in the Mulkey, and a Haunted House will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 in the EDC building.

The Mulkey Theatre will also have a FREE movie at 7:30 p.m., Hotel Transylvania, sponsored by Robertson Funeral Directors.

Also on Monday, October 31, the City of Howardwick Volunteer Fire Department will start at 6 p.m. with trunk-or-treat at McMorries Memorial Park followed by a raffle.

An Amarillo man has been charged in connection with the June 19 accident that led to the death of a Clarendon teenager.

Trent Lee Wood, age 19, was indicted by a Randall County Grand Jury in the 181st District Court and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter w/Vehicle.

According to the indictment, Wood was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and caused the death of Clayton Anderson, a passenger in the vehicle, when he drove the vehicle into a tree.

Anderson, age 16, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the Canyon Police Department. Canyon police and firefighters were dispatched at 6:05 a.m. Sunday, June 19, to a major vehicle crash in the 24000 block of US 87. Upon arrival, they found a 2004 Chevrolet Pickup traveling south on US 87 had left the roadway and struck a tree at the “2nd Roadside Park.”

Wood was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Anderson was a front passenger in the vehicle.
Anderson was well known in the rodeo community and had been named the Texas High School Reserve Reined Cowhorse champion and was to compete at Nationals this summer. He was also the Top Hand in the Clarendon Outdoor Entertainment Association’s Junior Ranch Rodeo and was scheduled to compete in this year’s event as well.

Services were held for Anderson on June 27 at the Clarendon College Matlock Arena

Clarendon Elementary Principal Mike Word has been named the Region 16 TEPSAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

This annual award recognizes school leaders for their outstanding service to the association. Honorees will be recognized at the TEPSA Awards Reception Wednesday, June 17, at the Austin Renaissance Hotel.

Twenty school leaders across the state were named TEPSANs of the Year. Award recipients must be committed to advancing the principalship and the association, as well as serving as a voice for Texas students.

“We are grateful for the work these leaders do to serve members in their communities on behalf of the Association. They are integral to our success,” said TEPSA Executive Director Harley Eckhart.

TEPSA, whose hallmark is educational leaders learning with and from each other, has served Texas PK-8 school leaders since 1917. Member owned and member governed, TEPSA has more than 5,900 members who direct the activities of more than 3 million PK-8 school children.
